The video at the top of this webpage has additional video and photos from the trip and is three minutes in length, and may take a few extra seconds to load.

These photos, maps, and videos are from our “Polar Bears and Glaciers” trip in early August 2019 to a camp above the Arctic Circle on Canada’s Baffin Island, and near the Inuit community of Qikiqtarjuaq. Arctic Kingdom and Nunavut Experience provided the field accommodations, boats, staff, and logistics.

You can also view the photos and videos at your own pace – to start just click on the first photo or go here.

A few things in the album, perhaps unexpected:
  • You’ll see a time lapse video taken at our base camp – surprising how much the icebergs moved around!
  • You’ll also see an underwater GoPro video taken as we kayaked by a small iceberg … interesting enough visually but the GoPro also caught the subsurface sounds of the berg.
  • Some of the staff acted as polar bear guards, and you’ll occasionally see a rifle in the photos. Only one warning shot had to be fired during our trip – the bear immediately left the area -- and I slept through it!

Two maps are also included to help explain our location and travels.
